Should I Pack This?  Staples for Traveling

There are some staples which I pack in my suitcase no matter where I am travelling to. Below are a few things which are always with me, no matter what!

  • Lululemon Leggings: Yes, I am aware these are expensive. Yes, they are about $100 per pair. Yes, I can promise you they are worth it. These leggings have lasted me years! I try to look at it as I’ve had the same pair for four years which would really be spending $25 per year on a pair that wears out. I have black ones which I always wear on the plane or in the car, they are beyond comfortable. These are one of my best investments!

  • A Yeti: Do you know what a Yeti is? If not please look into it or a similar product. These cups and water bottles keep drinks hot and cold for an extended period of time. I have a 20oz tumbler and a water bottle. Depending on if it is a road trip or a plane trip will determine which I will bring. This is also a cost saver. You are able to fill your water bottle in the airport for FREE! Also most hotels have water available as well!

  • Snacks: I always have snacks with me! My husband is always hungry and sometimes there is no place or time to stop for something. No matter if we are driving or flying I pack snacks. You can pack snacks in a carry on too! I usually go to Aldi’s and stock up on peanut butter crackers, granola bars and if I am traveling in the US I even bring fruit! There is no excuse for not packing snacks for a road trip! Also for road trips we usually bring a cooler with drinks as well. There is no point in paying $1.50 for a soda when you can purchase a case for $4.00.

  • A cross body purse: It’s simple and it’s safe. I often have people asking if I wear a money belt or something around my neck to keep my belongings safe. My answer is: NO!!! I live in Boston which is full of tourists and locals and I don’t wear a money belt while I am “home”. I would not choose to travel somewhere where I felt the need to hide and hold on to my belongings for my life! I usually wear a cross body at home so I just place it in my luggage to use while I am way traveling too!

  • Camera: My biggest regret when traveling is not taking enough photos. You can always delete photos after wards but it is important to take photos so you can remember and share your experiences. I always pack a camera and of course I have my phone with me.

  • Cash: Should I bring cash with me? My answer is always yes! How much though? This depends on what you are doing and where you are going. I like to keep in mind cash for tipping, cash for smaller vendors and cash for street vendors and bargaining. I like to travel with smaller bills.

  • A rain jacket or Umbrella: I know you checked the weather because you’re going on vacation but what happens when all of the sudden it begins to rain? You have to go out! You’re on vacation,  you have plans today! I use one of the water bottle holders on the side of my backpack to put an umbrella in for every trip. Yes you can bring an umbrella on a plane!

  • Sneakers: YES! You need these! For walking around and for fitness please bring a comfy pair of sneakers! I usually wear my sneakers on a plane since they are usually my bulkiest pair of shoes I am bringing with me. This will also save room in your luggage. Some activities also require sneakers, like ziplining and most adventure activities.

  • Bathing Suit: I always regret when I don’t have one packed! Even if I don’t think I am going to need one I always pack one! Most hotels usually have a hot tub or a pool. You also never know when you might decide to do a water activity and need one!

  • Block Chargers: Let’s be honest, we are all on our phones way more then we should be! Block chargers are great for when you are out travelling. Sometimes we leave super early in the morning and don’t return until late at night. This does get tricky when using public transportation and walking around, your phone may be dead before you return from to your hotel! I usually pack two block chargers! They are also great for long plane rides with no inflight entertainment.

  • A colored suitcase: Everyone wants a black or dark colored suit case. Yes, I get it, you don’t want any dirt to show on your new suitcase. But how are you going to find it?! You could purchase a colored luggage tag or make a bow but I would recommend just purchasing a colored one. They are the same price as a black one. I like the hard plastic ones. Mine has not cracked nor scuffed in over four years! It still looks amazing! I also recommend a suitcase with four wheels on the bottom, they roll better. Recommendations for purchasing luggage: TJMAXX or Marshalls

  • A backpack: I always bring a backpack as my carry-on on the airplane. I like to use a pack pack for day trips and such when travelling. It comes in handy! Sometimes instead of a purse I will take my backpack for the day if we are going to be out for a long time.
